News November 2008
|
|
November in England conjurors up grey, drizzle, fog, cold evenings. Yep, we’re right on target!
My Winter will be brightened with Flinky Babes. Winter pups are somewhat outside my usual preference for summer pups, but I really wanted lovely Quincy’s genes under the Genabacab umbrella, but he is now rising 12 years old, so time was not on our side. Now that, for me, the BEST Christmas. No space for trees or other paraphernalia!
Hope to see a few of you at the last Multi Sport event for this year: Sunday Nov 30th level 1 & 2 in the morning, Level 3 & 4 in the afternoon and the first Tracking Options with Alyson.

Christmas Gifts you REALLY want .. “learning lasts a lifetime”
The only type of “crunch” my dogs know about is the biscuit variety, “credit” means nothing to them - thank goodness. There’s nothing like viewing life from the dogs’ perspective to blow away the financial stresses.
10% OFF Courses & workshops
Book on line for Courses & workshops before December 24th and get 10% off. If you are buying the gift for someone else, please remember to let us know their name and contact details - but of course you can buy the gift for yourself ...... !
NEW Book from Kay Laurence
Training through Reinforcement: In Every Day and Every Way This will be published early 2009 with an accompanying DVD.
Reinforcement is a fascinating topic that threads through all interaction with our dogs. Our conscious and unconscious reinforcement strengthens or weakens behaviour. By understanding and recognising reinforcement patterns we can teach with ease, remove a lot of stress from communication and lift our relationship to a level of joy.
To me it affects our lives in so many ways - from going through the garden gate to settling down in the lounge in the evenings. From teaching calmness in the company of other dogs to walking on sunshine heelwork. It is more than worthy of a Kay Laurence Book - it needs a DVD to illustrate as well.
You can order a pre-publish copy with £5 off the Book and £5 off the DVD. Book price after 1 Jan 2009: £24, buy now at £19. DVD price after 1 Jan 2009: £20, buy now at £15 (inc VAT for EU countries).
The DVD is not intended as a stand alone DVD, but as an illustration of the processes and strategies covered in the book.

Micro Shaping Starting April 3rd 2009
The aim of micro shaping is to maintain a 90-100% reinforcement rate on every behaviour through every step of the increasing criteria. This is as close as we can practically get to error-free learning.

Teaching Moderator Cues Starting July 3rd 2009
Moderator cues are the “adverbs” we use to describe more specific functions of the behaviour. Instead of “paw”, a moderator of “left” would indicate more information. “Left” can then be used to moderate a variety of other activities - fetch the “left” toy, turn to your “left” etc. We can moderate higher or lower, faster or slower.
